Kansas City Gas Company sends KCI $2.4 Million Bill for February

Quinton Lucas, the Kansas City Mayor, said that the KCI’s gas bill for February increased to $2.4 million. Airport’s Texas-based gas provider’s bill saw an increase of more than $2.32 million than it regularly pays on average. On social media post, Lucas said, “We weren’t born yesterday. So, expect some further talks from here.”

Lucas said that KCI gets its gas from Symmetry Energy Solutions. The company is headquartered in Houston, Texas. According to the website, Symmetry is a “leading energy supplier providing over 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas to more than 100,000 residential and commercial customers in over 30 states.”

Lucas said that Kansas City certainly understands the energy industry challenges this winter, which originates from the southwest. They do not believe that these cots will be disproportionate to the MoKan flying public. The Texas energy companies have been under the spotlight recently after the passing of massive bills to customers after the winter storm of last month.

Texas’ Attorney General is suing electricity provider Griddy for rate increases. Some of the residential customers were nearly charged $10,000. Days after Texas’s power grid manager effectively shut down Griddy, the lawsuit came. It revoked access to the state’s electricity market.

A $10 per month is charged by the Kansas City Griddy to give people a way to pay wholesale prices for the electricity instead of a fixed rate. However, when the temperatures plummeted well below the freezing last month, wholesale prices were spiked. The Griddy customers were left with sky-rocketing electricity bills.
